Wellington’s EYC launches ‘Parents as Partners’ sharing series

2022-02-15

Learning is a full-time pursuit. It does not start at 8:30am when the school day begins, nor does it end when your child returns home in the afternoon. Our parents therefore play an integral role in our pupils' education. They are, in effect, our partners. They play one of the most valuable roles in ensuring that their children’s time with us is rewarding and enriching. This is especially true for our youngest pupils, who are at such an important formative stage of their lives.

That is why this month, our Early Years Centre is pleased to present its all-new Parents as Partners – Early Years Sharing Series. This series of regularly occurring talks will be an opportunity for our educators to share their insights on the many important issues that our parents and teachers encounter in our youngest pupils' learning, growth and development.

Parents will get to explore in greater depth a wealth of topics, such as the importance of wellbeing and involvement; being parent readers; how children learn outdoors; age-appropriate health and self-care; and supporting development at home. There will also be talks about bilingual language development as well as early reading, writing and math.

The sharing sessions aim to encourage and explore ways to bridge the gap between home and school learning, allowing for a seamless experience for our children, making every moment an opportunity for holistic development and strengthening the partnership between all those in our caring community.

In our first installment on Thursday 17 February, Barbara Faria, Head of Early Years, presents: 'Positive behaviour strategies: rules, boundaries and routines'. All children will behave or stretch boundaries at some point. They can demonstrate this by refusing to follow rules or having tantrums. In this session, Ms Faria will offer some helpful strategies for creating age-appropriate rules, boundaries and routines as well as provide advice on dealing with difficult behaviour in a positive and calm manner, in line with how our young pupils learn at the Early Years Centre.

Our Parents as Partners – Early Years Sharing Series is open to all Wellington parents. We encourage you to join us in strengthening our parent-teacher partnership.

Please contact our admissions team at admissions@wellingtoncollege.cn or scan the QR code on the series calendar below if you would like to apply and attend a talk. We look forward to sharing with you!
