Young Musician of the Year 2017

Recently the college hosted its inaugural Young Musician of the Year competition. Throughout the week, the music department was filled with incredible performances by musicians from years 3-13, all vying to become the first winner of this auspicious prize. After four days of auditions, over 60 applicants were brought down to 12 finalists, competing in four different categories. These pupils were: Lower Prep – Ethan (Year 3, Lynedoch), Samson (Year 3, Stanley) and Phoebe (Year 4, Hopetoun) Upper Prep – Aaliyaa (Year 6, Lynedoch), Sabrina (Year 7, Hopetoun) and Bridie (Year 7, Lynedoch) Senior – Owen (Year 9, Lynedoch), Emmie (Year 10, Hopetoun), Isabella (Year 11, Combermere) Music Scholars – Kiana (Year 9, Lynedoch) , Joey (Year 11, Lynedoch), Jackson (Year 12, Hopetoun) Today we hosted the final of the competition in front of the upper Prep and Senior pupils, parents and our adjudicators: Gerard MacMahon and Kim Ismay from the cast of the “Wicked” world tour. Every performer proved their ability and why they were selected to represent their area of the college. After careful deliberation, our adjudicators selected the following winners: Lower Prep – Phoebe (Year 4, Hopetoun) Upper Prep – Bridie (Year 7, Lynedoch) Senior – Owen (Year 9, Lynedoch) Music Scholars – Joey (Year 11, Lynedoch) They also chose one overall winner who showed immense musicality and highlighted the passion, love and enjoyment for music that the college tries to instil in every student. Congratulations to Kiana (Year 9, Lynedoch), who is our Young Musician of the Year and to all pupils who participated in the competition. We look forward to pupils competing again next year.
