Our house system is designed to give each pupil a place where they are recognised as an individual, with their unique needs, capabilities and ambitions. For Wellingtonians, their house is where they will develop their most enduring friendships while being supported and guided by a team of passionate and dedicated house staff.
On their first day at College, each pupil will become a member of one of our five day houses - the Hopetoun, the Stanley, the Wellesley, the Lynedoch, or the Combermere. In addition to their day house, those boarding will become members of the Hill, our boarding house. Each pupil in upper Prep and the Senior school is supported in their house, by a housemaster and a team of tutors who are always available to celebrate their successes and listen to their concerns. House staff are there to successfully steer the pupils through each stage of their school life.
Wellington encourages a spirit of friendly rivalry between the five houses and each Wellingtonian is given plenty of opportunities to compete for house points and other accolades. Points are available for academic achievement and sporting and artistic successes, as well as any other endeavors where they have gone above and beyond.
Our house system also provides pupils with the opportunity to take on positions of responsibility and subsequently develop their leadership, organisational and interpersonal skills. Chosen pupils are appointed to take on such positions as head of College, head of house, deputy head of house, team captains, college ambassadors and various other roles. These positions require them to monitor and encourage the progress and development of their peers and help facilitate house events throughout the year.
We believe that the house system, with its competitions, positions of responsibility and sense of community, genuinely encourages our pupils to overcome their reservations and try new experiences, take risks and push themselves, all within an accepting and supportive environment.
