Wellington hosts Shanghai schools for Netball Asia umpiring course
2018-01-29
On the weekend 20th-21st January, Wellington welcomed the Head of Netball Asia, Veronica Arnold, and her team to teach a Level One netball umpiring course for teaching staff from our own college as well as other Shanghai schools. The weekend focussed on the theoretical aspects of netball, the current International Netball Federation and Association (INFA) rules and included practical examinations during the second day.
It was great to see that everyone who attended the course passed with flying colours. Wellington College was proud to host this event and we hope to offer similar courses in the future to help strengthen the standard of sports coaching, umpiring and playing in Shanghai.
After receiving plenty of feedback from many of the participants, I’m thrilled to report that they found it to be an extremely enjoyable and useful weekend:
“The umpiring course was harder than I thought it was going to be. However, it was a useful course to take as I now feel like I would be much better at umpiring now that I know things like; needing to stand at the apex, running with the shoulders facing the court and countless other things. I most enjoyed the practical part of the course as this enabled me to put the theory learned into practice.”
Lucy Willis year 12 pupil (Wellington)
“I thoroughly enjoyed the course and I think that everyone genuinely got so much from Veronica and the team. It was also lovely to be able to actually chat with our coaching colleagues.”
Sarah Caldwell Teacher (BISS Puxi)
I’d like to say a big thank you to the following schools who joined us for the weekend; your participation was invaluable:
- Nord Anglia International School, Pudong
- Dehong Chinese International School, Minhang
- British International School, Puxi
- Dulwich College, Shanghai
- Dulwich College, Minhang
- Dulwich College, Suzhou
