Little Shop of Horrors | A plant-based diet of delightful entertainment

Last week saw pupils perform this year’s production of Little Shop of Horrors, a musical with a big heart and an even bigger appetite! Performed in the College theatre to enthusiastic audiences, the cast, orchestra, stage management and costume/prop design teams came together to put on a sensational show.   Mr Larsen-Disney, the production’s director and Wellington’s director of arts, shares a few words of congratulations and appreciation for everyone involved. What a pleasure it has been to work on Little Shop of Horrors with the tremendously talented pupils at Wellington College in Shanghai.  I have directed this show in a number of countries working with performers ranging from professionals to university and school pupils and I can honestly say this is, to date, my favourite production. The sheer determination and skill displayed by all involved guaranteed this to be an incredible show. Every member of the cast shone, demonstrating the discipline and focus needed to create a convincing evening of entertainment. Special mention must also be made of the show band, who were a mixture of our finest musicians supplemented by some professionals who were led by the very talented Mr Sam Mulliner. It would also be remiss of me not to mention the tremendous work of Mr Hicks and the technical prop making CCA pupils, Mr Jonathan Beastall for his work on the sets and our choreographers Mr Wood, Mrs Deva and Sofia from year 12. Performances like this are only possible when the entire school community supports them and with this in mind, I would like to thank all the parents and pupils who took the time to come and watch the show and be part of this special production.   The main lesson learned from this show is; if your plant asks for blood, don’t feed it!
